The November 30/30 Challenge - Day 20. Cali What?

Welcome to Day Twenty of The November 30/30 Challenge.

Today's activity highlight is Calisthenics!

The name Calisthenics comes from the Greek words kallos for beauty and thenos for strength

And yes, I used to do this too!

 Many years ago.

I started off in the Tiny Tots section when I was three and worked my way up through the Tinies, Sub-Juniors, and Juniors. In the last couple of years I was also doing Jazz Ballet, and then decided that I preferred the dancing, so I followed that path instead.

Calisthenics, for those who don't know, is a uniquely Australian artistic sport, combining dance, gymnastics, ballet, singing, acting, marching and apparatus manipulation, one of which is 'rods' (pictured above). Teams perform routines choreographed to music, and while some clubs are purely recreational, other clubs compete in competitions during the year, all over the state.

If you think that Calisthenics is just for kids, you would be wrong, as a lot of the clubs around today offer  classes for the 'Masters' or over 26 year olds.

If Calisthenics sounds like something you would be interested in, there are some wonderful benefits of getting involved with a club.

They include:

Teamwork.

Improves co-ordination.

Develops rhythm and grace.

Improves confidence.

Improves flexibility.

Develops muscle tone.

Burns calories.

Creates friendships.

Encourages commitment.

To find out more, contact the Calisthenics Association in your state.

Go on! I dare you!

    1. It certainly used to be when I was a kid, Rachel! I know some mum's who have started doing it because their kids are, and they really enjoy it too!

    1. It doesn't seem to be mentioned as often now, as it was when I was a kid, but it's obviously still pretty popular!
Glad I could put it out there for you :)

  4. I looked at Calisthenics for my oldest girl, but ended up keeping her in ballet. I think this is something I could do though! :)
