The November 30/30 Challenge - Day 15. No Excuse!

Welcome to Day Fifteen of The November 30/30 Challenge.

Today's activity highlight is Home Workout DVD's!

We've made it half way through the challenge! Yay!

Well done if you've been managing to do your 30 minutes of exercise every day.

I am really proud of myself, that I haven't missed a day yet, even with hurting my hamstring!

Go me!

Now to today's activity.

I am a HUGE advocate for home workout DVDs. When my boys were babies, it was the only kind of workout I got, other than racing around after them of course!

With my eldest son having autism, I spent a lot of time running around to therapy appointments, as well as doing therapy myself at home, and by evening I was so exhausted, that going to the gym just wasn't an option for me. Not only that, my son had such bad separation anxiety, that I couldn't take him to a gym child minding service and leave him, like a lot of other mums could.

So for me to get any kind of exercise, it had to be what I could do at home, in and around our appointments.

I can't even begin to tell you how many I have tried. Some that have been only tried the once and then put in the back of the cupboard never to see the light of day again. Others, I have done so many times that I almost know them off by heart!

Here are three of my favourites:

Jillian Michaels - 30 Day Shred

I will recommend this DVD to anyone who wants to listen!!

I have said before that I have a real love/hate relationship with Jillian! She is a (sometimes) very annoying, ball breaking bitch! But if you follow her recommendations, she gets results! (That's the love part!)
I was put onto this workout by my best friend, who was put onto it by a friend of hers, who was put onto it by a friend of hers, and so on, and every one of us got amazing results!

I was struggling with losing the last of the baby weight after having my youngest, and it didn't matter what I tried, I just couldn't lose those last five kilos. I was getting very disheartened, after doing so well and already losing close to ten kilos, and my motivation was lacking badly.

Enter the 30 Day Shred, and I lost 5 centimetres from my waist in the first week!

I KNOW!!

I couldn't believe it either! I had to re-measure myself 3 times just to make sure I wasn't seeing things! But I wasn't! And after completing the full 30 days, I'd lost a million centimetres! Ok, so I'm exaggerating a tiny bit, but I can't remember exactly how many. Enough for me to be extremely happy and singing Jillian's praises!

Jillian Michaels - Ripped in 30

A great follow on from the 30 Day Shred. A tougher workout, but not impossible, as you should have gained strength by completing Shred first. Once again, you feel like slapping her at times (at least I did), but do what she says and you will be pleased!

Aerobics Oz Style - Pilates Body and Soul

Now this is a bit of an oldie (produced in 2002), but still the best Pilates workout that I've come across thus far, in my opinion. It concentrates on your core, legs and butt, and boy, can you feel it! The instructor, Helen Tardent, has a lovely speaking voice and I actually find it quite soothing and calming to listen to during the workout. Definitely worth a try if you can get your hands on a copy.

Obviously, one of the main benefits of home workout DVDs, is the convenience. You can do it at any time that it suits you, without having to go anywhere, and they are perfect for those people who feel self conscious exercising in front of others.

The other benefits, of course, depend on what type of DVD workout you choose to do, as there are different benefits for different activities.

But one thing is for sure, you will be:

burning calories,

improving strength and,

increasing flexibility.

So, if the weather is crappy, or you're just suck at home for other reasons, there's really no excuse, is there?

  3. I have that 30 day shred DVD, I've watched it but never done it lol. When you followed it did you follow her eating plan or just did the workout? Maybe I should give it another go?!

    1. Oh Sam! I can't believe you've never done it! lol
It was just the workout, I didn't do the eating plan, however I will if my weight starts to become a problem again. I also bought her cookbook, which I've got sitting there.
DEFINITELY, give it a go! :)

    2. Also meant to ask, how did you set up the reply to comments bit on your blog?

    3. Hmmm. Sorry, I'm not sure I know what you mean. Do you mean where I say "Thanks for leaving a comment blah blah blah?"

    4. Sorry I should have explained it better. With blogger I've never been able to "reply" to comments other people have left for me, I've just had to post a new comment and then it doesn't let the person I'm replying to know that I've replied. I just wondered if it was in the settings somewhere.

    5. Oh, that's wrong! Mine automatically comes up with reply under each comment, unless I've hit something in the settings that I didn't know about! I'll have a bit of a look, but I don't remember setting it up :)

    6. Mine must be stuffed lol.

Anyway I did the 30 day shred yesterday, omg! The cardio killed me lol. My thighs and butt are so sore today it hurts to sit down lol. The weird thing is I'm actually looking forward to doing it again today lol.

  4. I think when I originally bought it I was a lot less fit than I am now and it just seemed way too hard. You've inspired me with your 30 day challenge Tracey, the start of November was crazy busy for me but now it's settled down a bit I am going to get stuck in and give the 30 day shred a go. I'm very interested to see if it does what it claims to do, so I'm going to take all my measurements and get started with it today.

  5. You're right, I found it so bloody hard! I cursed Jillian the whole way through it, believe me! And through Ripped in 30 as well. But as much as I hated it, slowly it got a bit easier and the fact that I was getting results helped me to stick with it.
Go you! Good luck with it, and I can't wait to hear how you're going! I haven't heard of anyone who hasn't got results with it, when they gave it their best effort, so fingers crossed for you hun xx
