The November 30/30 Challenge - Day 5. Yoga Anyone?

Welcome to Day Five of The November 30/30 Challenge.

The activity highlight for today is Yoga!

I have done yoga on a number of occasions, but never seriously. As my body is incredibly inflexible, I always found it very hard, so have only done the odd class here or there. You really need to do it often to get the most out of it, but unfortunately I've never stuck with it.

Yoga incorporates gentle exercise, breathing practices and meditation. It dates back thousands of years in ancient India. It apparently started as a path to spiritual enlightenment, but has become the form of exercise it is known as today.

There are different types of Yoga, and some of the most popular are:

Bikram - done in a hot room to help sweating and the flushing out of toxins and allows the loosening of tight muscles with deep stretching.

Hatha - slow paced and gentle, this yoga focuses on breathing and meditation.

Ashtanga - is intense and classed as 'power yoga,' and includes a lot of lunges and push ups.

Kundalini - focuses on the body's core area.

Vinyasa - fully energetic with fast movements and many poses.

The benefits of Yoga include:

Stress management and relief.

Improves cardiovascular fitness.

Speeds up digestion.

Aids strength and endurance.

Increases flexibility and balance.

I really would like to start doing yoga on a regular basis. Perhaps, what I need is someone to run a yoga challenge!

Anyone?

:)
