The November 30/30 Challenge - Day 2. Feeling Pole-ish?

Today is Day Two of The November 30/30 Challenge, and another activity you might like to try is Pole Dancing!

Pole dancing classes are becoming more and more popular, and are a fun way of improving fitness. Not only do they provide a muscle strengthening and toning workout, but they also do incredible things for a women's confidence (or so I've been told!) A lot of women are choosing to take classes such as these, instead of going to the gym, and getting very similar results! Swinging your body weight around a pole certainly increases upper body strength, as well as toning and tightening your core.

Some other benefits of Pole Dancing are:

Increases flexibility.

Burns calories.

Great for a laugh (especially if you join with friends).

Improves posture.

Self-empowering.

In fact, as written by Manly Dance News -

"pole dancing works on lower and upper abs, obliques and thighs, as well as triceps, biceps and deltoids".

Sounds pretty much like a full body workout to me!

What do you think? Would you give it a go?

  1. Even my sleepy little country town has a pole dancing class (I've heard). It is a full body workout and would be great fun with a group of friends. I'd give it a go although I know I would be incredibly uncoordinated ;)

    1. I agree. I'd love to do it with some friends, but I have no delusions that I would be anything more than hopeless :)

    1. Yes, I can imagine how my poor core strength would make me look doing this, too Kaz! lol

  5. LOL - there is no way I would do that - I would be on my a*se in a tick !!!! Having said that I have heard that it is an excellent workout - well you would think so seeing as you don't normally see larger ladies pole dancing in clubs (so I've heard anyway !!!!)
    Have a great day !

    1. Ha ha! I really do want to try it one day, but I think, like you, I would spend a lot of time on the ground :)

  6. I want to do it, and almost did but found out I was pregnant so decided I'd wait. The reason I want to do it, is because I have no arm strength and no coordination, and I would get an enormous amount of amusement trying to do it (and failing in an epic manner, as they say) I wouldn't do a course, but I will sign up for a one off lesson (the humour of it wouldn't last 10 lessons, and might ruin it for other students who are taking it seriously)
I go climbing from time to time because my muppet arms struggle to get me up and then I start laughing and end up dangling in the harness, which itself is hilarious....

    1. Probably a good idea you decided to wait Lydia! lol
I really love the thought of the laugh factor too, but yes, I think I would try a one off lesson before committing to any more!

You should like tomorrow's post ;)

  7. My sister in law had a pole installed in her apartment for a while and she is one fit looking babe. However the whole bump and grind in cellulite flashing hot pants is just not me.

    1. I'm hearing you! I could see myself doing some lessons purely for fitness, but think I would find it embarrassing too! Definitely, definitely would never put a pole up at home, and couldn't see myself wearing the clothes or, ahem, the lack of them that they wear :)

  8. My pilates instructor is also an Australian champion pole dancer, she has the most amazing body and strength. I think I'm too chicken to try pole dancing, pilates is enough for me lol.

    1. I can imagine how amazing her body would be! Most of them do have incredible physiques. I think I'm going to have to try it at least once though, scared or not! :)

  12. I tried pole dancing classes at a hens party a few years ago. Wow, it is hard work, beyond anything I had imagined.
Not sure they do pole dancing classes here in the Middle East though, fairly sure it would be against some kind of rule.

What a great hen's night that would have been! Should have done something like that for mine :-)

  13. Unfortunately, pole dancing isn't easily accessible on account of I don't have a pole, and I don't have an available sitter to watch my boys (my husband works long hours). But it looks like lots of fun!

    1. I think it does too! But yes, a pole is kind of essential! :-)

  14. Sounds like a great idea! Very similar to my plan of going for a 30 minute walk/run. I did a 9km fun run back in September, trained for 10 weeks prior 2 times a week, and I'm missing the routine, I need to get back into so I make sure I fit into my dress on my wedding day!! 15. I'd love to give pole dancing a go. Looks so hard. I remember Ellen De Generes interviewed Paris. Despite being an absolute bimbo, she was actually quite graceful on that pole.

    1. I really can't imagine Paris being anything but a bimbo, but I'll take your word for it! Shame we're not in the same state Grace, we could try it together! :-)
