On the weekend, we did a possum release.
Releasing a wild animal back into its natural habitat is a feeling second to none.
This girl, Lucky (named by the family that found her), came to me as an orphaned baby, after her mother was hit and killed by a car.
She was in my care for twelve months.
It finally came time to say goodbye.
Possum box (containing possum) nicely secured in the back.
Looking for the perfect spot.
Securing the box in the tree.
I'm doing the ladder holding......sooo not into heights!
My boys watching on.
When we've finished you can just catch the slightest glimpse of the possum box. (The tiny shiny bit in the middle of the tree trunk).
And now you wouldn't even know it was there at all!
Bye Lucky
All the best girl.
xx
Good job hubby!
Linking in with Trish for my not so Wordless Wednesday.

Hi Momto8! (Oh my goodness!!)
DeleteWelcome! Always love to have new followers! I will pop over and do the same right now! :)
Thats awesome that you did that. Looking after her for 12mths would have made her like part of your family.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest Salwa, I was a bit over it! lol
Delete12 mnths of collecting fresh leaves every second day, cleaning the cage every day....it kind of makes you glad to see the back of them when they go! Mind you, I'm not off the hook as I still have a younger possum that isn't old enough to go yet, so I still have to do it for her. There are always new animals needing to take their place :)
What a great project to be part of.
ReplyDeleteIt is Tamara! A lot of work, and time, but so worth it in the end! :)
DeleteWhat a wonderful project - good on you! I don't know how I could let her go after 12 months caring for her, but am sure she will be all the better off for it :)
ReplyDeleteIt's not hard Renee. You know why you're doing it from the start, and you keep that in mind all the time. My first release was hard, but now I've done so many that it's just another part of the process. All you can do is hope that you've done your job well enough that they are able to fend for themselves :)
Deletewhat a great project!!! And a happy ending!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Yvette, and yes, very happy! For all of us! :)
DeleteThis is so lovely! Thank you for sharing it with us!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Becky! Thanks for stopping by! :)
DeleteWhat a great thing to do, I do admire you.
ReplyDeleteHub found an injured baby ringtail at work today, got taken to the vet and then wires told him that there might be another one and sure enough there was it's little baby twin in the carpark. they will be reunited.
Thank you! Gotta love a reunion! Yes, when it comes to Ringy's, they're not very often on their own! Mum Ringtails tend to toss their babies very easily if they get stressed. So glad your hubby went back and had another look! :)
DeleteWhat a lovely thing to do.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up .
